Happy National Home Improvement Month! Ever since 2002, May has been designated National Home Improvement Month, an initiative began by the National Association of the Remodelling Industry (NARI) with the help of the U.S. Congress. National Home Improvement Month was created to celebrate (you guessed it) home improvement, as well as to make it simpler for homeowners to find home remodelling experts to aid their home transformations. So, what better month to get around to doing those home improvement projects you’ve been putting off?
Kitchen and bathroom home modelling projects are usually the most popular among home renovation, but there are several other things around your home you should take a look at during this month to ensure it’s all up to par. What should you look for?
- The gutters. Spring can bring a lot of rain, so it’s vital to be sure your gutters haven’t gotten clogged over the past winter. Gutters also need to be attached to your home properly and positioned correctly for drainage. Otherwise, you could be looking at water damage!
- Windows and doors. It’s probably not something you pay much attention to but if your windows and doors aren’t sealed properly, then they aren’t keeping inside air in and outside air out, which raises your energy bill. So, check your windows to see if there’s condensation in between glass panes, air leaking in, and whether they’re shutting properly or not. For doors, look and see if light is coming through the edges of the door, whether any wood is warped, and the ease of closing and locking the door. Fix or replace windows and doors that aren’t doing their job.
- The roof. Your roof is important, so if it’s damaged in any way, such as loose tiles or broken shingles, it needs to be fixed or replaced. So don’t forget to give it a good once-over!
- The siding. If the siding of your home is dirty, then there could be algae growing there, and that isn’t a look you want for your house! Clean your siding via pressure-washer or a good scrub to keep things looking nice. And check for any peeling paint, warping, or other damage while you do so and replace anything that needs replacing, so your home looks its best.
- Dryer vents. Keeping your dryer vents cleaned out is a quick and easy home improvement project that won’t take long at all. Just pick up the phone and give us a call to schedule your cleaning! Doing this ensures your home is safe from dryer fires.
