Have you noticed a musty smell in your clothes?

It’s springtime in Raleigh, Cary, and Durham, and it's my favorite time of year! Every spring, the long-lost smell of musty clothes returns. Fortunately, there are a few things you can do.

Washer use and care:

Keep the wash loads to medium size, and don't overload the machine.

Use as little detergent as possible and try things like vinegar and baking soda.

Do not leave the clothes in the machine overnight! This is the worst! Remove and dry them as soon as the cycle is over.

Leave the washer door open, dry the door, and seal with a rag to lower the moisture in the machine.

Install a device like the Pure Wash Pro.

Periodicly clean your washer, and run a normal cycle with no detergent and just some bleach to clean it out.

Proper use and care of the dryer.

Make sure your clothes are completely dry before you remove them. Any moisture left in the clothes will lead to odor.

Use some wooly dryer balls with essential oils to give them a fresh smell!

Make sure your dryer vent is in good condition. A dryer vent leaking air can allow hot, moist air to creep back into the clothes if you let the clothes sit after a dry cycle.

A plugged, clogged, or broken vent can cause the dryer to run longer, and the clothes might not be completely dry.
